The BEST WESTERN Hotel de La Regate has taken all the necessary steps to achieve the European Ecolabel. The Ecolabel is a system designed to help the European consumers to know which services are green and are favourable to the environment.
WHAT WE DO FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
The heating system The heating is produced by a heating water pump/water from a geothermic depth. Energy is collected from the ground at a depth of a hundred meters below and around the hotel, this is then used in the under-flow heating. During the summer period the hotel is naturally cooled by the under-floor system.
The ventilation The hotel uses a simple hydro-reglable ventilation with a presence detector in the bathrooms and toilets which helps to reduce usage when rooms are not occupied. In the public areas (reception, main hall and breakfast room) a double flux has been used. This helps save energy by upto 80% more than a classical system, and a gain of 30% of consumer energy.
The water The hot water is produced by 16 solar panels on the roof which produces around 35% of yearly usage. The heated water is stocked in 2 water tanks of 1000 litres. The remaining 65% is heated during reduced consumption hours and stocked in 2 water tanks of 750 litres.
The insulation The roof is covered with heather and dried herbs which help to keep the hotel cool and maintains a better insulation. The walls are made from concrete blocks with a bamboo and reed effect which blends well in the natural environment.
The electricity All the light bulbs used in the hotel are energy saving light bulbs.
Breakfast Our 4 tea selections and chocolate are produce by Max Haveelar (fair trade).
In the bedrooms Our wastebaskets are produced by recycling shopping bags and are made in Camdobia by an NGO. The gobelets of the welcome trays are entirely biodegradable.
